In the April, 2007, event, the No. 66 crew gave the Haas CNC Racing team the best starting spot and best finish its had at Phoenix International Raceway since the team was founded The Best Buy crew qualified 14th and finished sixth, marking the team’s second top-10 finish in as many races in the new Car of Tomorrow design (coming on the heels of a sixth-place run at Bristol Motor Speedway in March).
Q&A With Driver Jeremy Mayfield
You finished in the top-25 at Texas last weekend. Do you feel like you’re making progress with the team? “Yeah, I do. It’s still a learning curve we’re having to work through, but every lap I make in the car moves us closer to where we need to be. Again, it’s all about getting acclimated to a new team, a new crew chief, a new car and a new situation. We finished better at Texas than we did at Atlanta, so that’s definitely a step in the right direction.
Q&A With Crew Chief Harold Holly
Given the success you had at Phoenix in April, will you be using the same setup this time?
“Yeah, we’re going with the exact same setup under the car that we finished the race with at Phoenix last time. Jeremy has a little different feel he likes in the car, so I’m sure we’ll have to work on getting it more to his liking, but it gives us a good baseline to work from. ”
You’ve only got one more race in the car of today, so are you spending less time focusing on it and more time on the Car of tomorrow? “We try to give 100 percent every time we go to the track, so we’ve focused on the old car for Homestead. This weekend will be the first time Jeremy’s driven one of our COT’s, so we’ll see how everything shakes out. He and I have challenged each other to get a handle on the old car by the time we leave Homestead, just because it will really show that we’re starting to communicate well with each other. ”
