Stepping away from the traditional singing of the national anthem, contemporary blues musician Jimmie Vaughan will perform a guitar rendition of the patriotic tune during pre-race festivities for the 3M Performance 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Sunday, Aug. 19 at Michigan International Speedway.
In addition to performing the national anthem, Vaughan will perform Saturday, Aug. 18 in the AAA Motorsports Fan Plaza during the 3M Car Care Auto Fair. Mainly known for his ability to defy expectations of modern blues music, the former Fabulous Thunderbirds member is also a classic car enthusiast.
“Performing the national anthem at the 3M Performance 400 is a privilege for me, ” Vaughan said. “People know me for my passion of music, but another true love of mine is cars. Just attending this event would be cool, but to have the opportunity to play at an event like this, in front of thousands of NASCAR fans and surrounded by incredible cars, is really exciting. ”
Since 1990, the contemporary blues musician has released four solo albums, but throughout his storied career he has also recorded and performed with other famous musicians including B. B. King, Bob Dylan, Bill Carter, Carlos Santana, Denny Freeman, Don Henley, Eric Clapton, Lou Ann Barton, and Willie Nelson.
