Just when Joe Nemechek’s No. 13 CertainTeed Chevrolet appeared to be peaking in Sunday’s Nextel Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway, the veteran Ginn Racing driver got caught up in a multicar wreck on the 2.66-mile oval.
While running in the lead draft on Lap 130 of the scheduled 188-lap race, Nemechek saw his day end early when he tried to avoid an accident. As he was delicately maneuvering his blue and white machine through the wreckage, he got clipped from behind, sending his car crashing hard against the inside retaining wall. He was credited with a 38th-place finish.
Nemechek did not suffer any injuries, but he was still taken to the infield care center for a mandatory observation.
