Top NASCAR rookie Juan Pablo Montoya and Driver of the Decade (1980s) Darrell Waltrip swing into Doral Golf Resort & Spa next month to headline the Homestead-Miami Speedway Celebrity Golf Classic, and they’re bringing friends….
And really, who better to help with a charitable endeavor than college basketball’s all-time assists leader? Perhaps one of the fiercest linebackers in NFL history to protect the Doral turf? Some Dolphins (circa ’72) to help navigate “Blue Monster” water hazards?
The 2nd annual Homestead-Miami Speedway Celebrity Golf Classic, presented by Sprint Nextel, is set for Nov. 14 in conjunction with a star-studded Ford Championship Week. Hosts Montoya and Waltrip are scheduled to be joined by NASCAR Cup champion Rusty Wallace; football Hall of Famers Lawrence Taylor and Larry Little; ’72 Dolphins Larry Seiple and Bob Kuechenberg; NFL greats Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson, Nat Moore, Ricky Jackson, Rob Konrad and Darryl Talley; baseball Hall of Famer Gary Carter; and basketball star Bobby Hurley—with more celebs to be announced.
“There’s a lot of championship rings in this all-star cast teeing it up at Doral—making it a perfect fit for Ford Championship Weekend, ” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Curtis Gray. “We’re looking forward to a weeklong stretch of festivities right here in South Florida leading up to NASCAR’s series-crowning at the Speedway. ”
Additional community festivities affiliated with Homestead-Miami Speedway’s Ford Championship Weekend include Ford Racefest—featuring live concerts, interactive exhibits, NASCAR drivers and the NEXTEL Cup trophy on display—the Hot Rods & Reels fishing tournament and Ford’s “Bailando Por La Copa” salsa-dance finals.
