One bad break may have been all that kept Kurt Busch from sweeping the poles and the victories in the 2006 Nextel Cup and Busch Series events at Watkins Glen International.
Busch started last year’s weekend by taking the pole Friday for the Cup race. The next day, he grabbed the pole for the Busch Zippo 200, and shortly after that he won the race, edging out Robby Gordon by .558 of a second. Joe Mink, StarGazette.com

Busch does seem to have mellowed a bit and, despite going off the deep end and nearly running over a crewman at Dover, seems to be carrying himself a bit more responsibly these days. The way his Penske Racing team had struggled the past two years, the elder Busch had plenty of other occasions to lose his cool (his run-in with Stewart at Dover notwithstanding).
And three, the 2004 champion still has a ton of talent and is capable of a dominating performance when he has the equipment.
That Busch is winning again and in contention to make the Chase for the Nextel Cup is good for the sport. Jeff Owens, FOXSports.com

Kurt Busch isn’t really a bad guy. It’s almost painful to see how genuine he is when he sits behind a microphone after winning a race.
He tries so hard to be articulate and to create a positive impression for his sponsor, which, in some quarters, can be difficult since his sponsor is Miller Lite. Dale Earnhardt Jr. carries the Budweiser banner so comfortably, and it’s obvious Busch, who might have the least likely last name of any person who has ever been affiliated with Miller Brewing Company, is putting more effort into the task than Earnhardt ever had to.

Kurt Busch lost a chance to start on the Pennsylvania 500 pole by a fluke rain shower on Friday.
On Sunday, there wasn’t anything fluky about Busch’s performance.
The 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion turned the Pennsylvania 500 into a 200-lap game of follow-the-leader as he dominated for his first victory of the season. John Erzar, TimesLeader.com
Timing is everything
A much-used expression, but appropriate nonetheless. Kurt Busch did on Sunday what Chase contenders Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ryan Newman have not. Busch won for the first time in 2007 and took a big step in separating himself from the other drivers fighting for the 12th and final spot in this year’s Chase. Ricky Craven, Yahoo! Sports

The Kurt Busch that was in Victory Lane was quite different from the old version of a spoiled rookie. Spencer was excellent in asking questions of his old nemesis, and treated Busch in a professional manner. Spencer actually handled the vast majority of the questioning, and his behavior went a long way toward ending any question of lingering animosity.

The 2004 series champion needs to keep his hot streak going — three top 10s in four races — if he wants to keep his spot for the 10-race Chase for the Nextel Cup championship.
It was Busch’s first win since March 26, 2006, at Bristol, and he was second in both Pocono races last year.
“You never for one instant think you have the race in the bag,” Busch said. “The only time I really thought about it was coming to the checkered, lap 199 coming to 200.” Seth Livingstone, USA TODAY
The victory was significant on a number of fronts. It was Busch’s first Cup win in 51 starts. It was owner Roger Penske’s 59th Cup victory. Most importantly, though, it moved Busch back into prime Chase contention.
“Awesome day for me, for Penske,” declared Busch, who celebrated his 29th birthday Saturday. “The engine was stout.”
Bulletproof, too. Joe Breeze, ESPN.com
Kurt Busch took off like greased lightning when the race started.
With the exception of a bad lug nut that cost him time in the pits, Busch totally dominated the 500-mile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race, leading all but 25 laps of the 200-lap event over the 2.5-mile track.
It was Busch’s first win since Bristol in March of 2006. He won it, however. In style. Pushed back to ninth position for a restart with 64 laps to go, Busch charged through the field to take the lead for good. Auto Racing Daily
