Sterling Marlin feels the numbers listed under his team’s finish category are not indicative of the performances the Ginn Racing team has turned in during the first seven races of the 2007 season.
“We can’t harp on bad luck, ” said Marlin, whose best finish was 17th at the season-opening Daytona 500. “Bad luck, mechanical problems, all of that is a part of racing and everyone experiences it. We just have to figure out a way around it. ”
“We have to start earning better finishes, ” continued Marlin. “This is a strong group of guys and a very talented race team. We know we’re capable, we all just have to get it done. ”
What Marlin is referring to are the times that he has watched good runs go bad due to wrecks or mechanical issues, such as last weekend in Texas when the team experienced problems with the driveshaft in the first half of the race.
Marlin is hoping to change the trend this weekend in Phoenix where he has typically run strong. In 20 races at the one-mile oval, Marlin has one pole, four top-10 and 10 top-20 finishes. Last spring, the Ginn Racing driver started 16th and finished 12th.
