Matt Kenseth will race the #17 USG Sheetrock/DeWALT Ford Fusion in the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday. He has come close to winning the past two years, and hopes to finally get to Victory Lane this weekend. On Saturday, Kenseth will drive the Arby’s car in the Busch race.
Jerry Bonkowski, Daily Herald: In last year’s race, Gordon sent Kenseth into a spin late in the race, allowing Gordon to take the lead and motor on to victory. Kenseth tried to make up the ground he lost but ran out of gas with two laps left, resulting in a disappointing 22nd-place finish rather than something better like the runner-up finish he had to Earnhardt in 2005.
“We’ve had a car capable of winning the past two years, but for one reason or another that just hasn’t happened,” Kenseth said. “Some might think that it’s really frustrating, and it is, but I also think we should be proud that we’ve had a car capable of putting us in position to win.”

Auto Racing Daily: “It’s been OK, but I gauge our season on winning championships, “ said Kenseth. “Right now, we aren’t at that level. Sure, we’ve performed well and we’ve had a chance to win two races and we did win California, but we aren’t at that level yet to where we can compete for a championship. The pit crew gets an ‘A, ‘ but myself and the rest of the team have to figure out how to make our cars better. “

Auto Racing Daily: Matt Kenseth says he enjoys racing at Chicagoland Speedway. But the relationship – and his patience – have been tested over the past two years.
Kenseth endured terrible luck in each of the Chicagoland races in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, he led a race-high 176 laps, but crafty pit strategy gave Dale Earnhardt Jr. the win. Kenseth finished second.

Auto Racing Daily: “Chicago’s a great track and one I really enjoy racing at. It’s wide and fast, real smooth and now that the pavement has aged, you’re starting to see a wider groove.
