Earnhardt Jr. has been running well lately, but so have the guys he is battling for the Chase – Martin Truex Jr. (45 points ahead of Junior), Busch and Ryan Newman (83 points behind Junior).
The Junior Nation can take solace in the fact that the final four races heading into the Chase are all tracks where Earnhardt Jr. has run strong this year – Michigan (finished fifth), Bristol (seventh), California (started fifth before blown engine relegated him to 40th) and Richmond (13th).

It was an ‘Ale-out’ battle as Kurt Busch driving the Miller Lite car easily won the Pennsylvania 500 from Pocono, beating Dale Earnhardt Jr. driving the Budweiser car by nearly four seconds. With nearly a perfect race for Busch, leading 175 of 200 laps, there was little doubt who had the fastest car. He’s been teetering in and out of the top 12 all year, and with this win he’s there, just barely, for now. It ended a dry spell for Busch, finally winning after not visiting Victory Lane for 51 races. With only 5 races left to the Chase, timing was definitely on his side. Racing Junky.com

The Pennsylvania 500 turned into Budweiser versus Miller and fan favorite versus villain. Miller and the villain won, but the fan favorite showed his mettle, and the chase for NASCAR’s Cup got a bit hotter.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: “Kurt did what he had to do today — and so did we. I enjoy the battle of the beverages. It matters when it comes to those guys in St. Louis. They highlight those cars on the race papers and results and give it to August (Busch). It is important to me. I know they pay attention to it so I pay attention to it. It matters when you win and run good, but they’d rather you just outrun all the other beer cars. “
Busch and his crew chief Pat Tryson, who joined the No. 2 in July, didn’t miss an opportunity to continue the friendly rivalry between brewers when they strutted into the media center, Miller Lites in hand.
“I enjoy the way that people in Milwaukee get pumped up about their racing program, ” Busch said. “Miller Lite is involved with multiple stadium sponsorships. They sponsor individuals and one of their biggest is this racing program with Penske. They always strive to be the best beer out there and they always tell me, ‘Great job beating that red car, ’ or, ‘Go get that red 8 car. ’ Lee Spencer, FOXSports.com

It came down to the battle of the beers as Kurt Busch beat out Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the Pennsylvania 500 by 4.1 seconds at Pocono Raceway.
Busch had the right car and right setup to, at times, lead by up to 11 seconds. Both drivers had started on the front row with Earnhardt Jr. as the pole setter. Right out of the gate, Earnhardt Jr. fell back a few positions with Busch moving into the lead. Mike Finnegan, SpeedwayMedia.com

Kurt Busch, in the Penske Racing Dodge Blue Deuce, under the direction of Crew Chief, Pat Tryson, lead all but 25 laps in today’s race as his stellar performance outclassed an unchallenging field. The engine in Busch’s car was unquestionably superior and the driver never faced any true competition, other than that of a another hops and yeast derived beverage, which was that of the Budweiser Car of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. It was kind of fun to see the ” Brew Boys” pitted against each other as they started the race in the pole positions. ‘‘I’m just glad I beat the Miller car, that’s all that matters,’’ Earnhardt told ESPN, referring to the battle of beer-sponsored cars.

‘‘I felt like we hit our marks well and we had some great Penske-Jasper [engine] power on the straightaways and ran a good lap time,’’ said Kurt Busch. Keith Groller, The Morning Call
