As the details of the recent plane crash in Sanford, FL begin to unfold, we will pause for a minute, read the thoughts and ideas that are being reported, sigh, and reach over to start returning those messages that lay on our desks. Of many in NASCAR touched by the generosity and wisdom of physician Bruce Kennedy, Robbie Loomis may be the most grateful.
When Loomis’ mother fell gravely ill three years ago, Kennedy arranged Sally Loomis’ transfer to Halifax County Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla. He visited her for three months and called Robbie Loomis by 10 a.m. daily.
“‘Doc’ and the good Lord are the reasons my mom is here today,” Loomis said. “Doc did a lot of things for a lot of people. But he was very unassuming, and no one knew what a large role he played in so many lives.”

Darrell Waltrip, Fox Sports: Speaking of disappointment, certainly that came in the form of a news report on Tuesday morning. After my wife Stevie’s birthday on Saturday, the girls and I stayed in Daytona for a few extra days. Frank and Pat Peek have a condo that they were gracious enough to let us use. On Tuesday, I was having coffee in the condo and looking at the newspaper. All of the sudden, there was a TV report about a plane crash near Orlando. The first pictures were devastating as the crash demolished homes.
I really started to watch with interest when they said the plane belonged to NASCAR and Bill France Jr. I knew that airplane. I believe it was the plane that Bill Sr. and Bill Jr. had used through the years. It got me worried that I knew somebody on the plane.
Joe Dunn, Crossville Chronicle: On Tuesday, July 9, the France family was jolted by an unexpected loss.
Dr. Bruce Kennedy, husband of NASCAR board member and International Speedway Corporation President Lesa France Kennedy, perished in a Sanford, FL plane crash, along with Michael Klemm, a senior captain with NASCAR aviation.
