NASCAR once again shows its inconsistency by not fining the 29 car of Richard Childress Racing. During the red flag at Watkins Glen the 29 crew were working on the car until Felix Sabates asked NASCAR officials if the rules had changed regarding working on cars during a red flag.
If Robby Gordon gets fined for ignoring the black flag then it stands to reason RCR and Kevin Harvick should be fined for ignoring the red flag.

It’s the stuff of every great NASCAR race—high-adrenaline chases, squealing tires and narrowly avoided disasters. Each weekend, thousands of people crowd the stands of NASCAR tracks to catch a glimpse of their favorite driver zooming by at high speeds. And each week, more and more people are finding new ways to enhance their race-viewing experience.
NASCAR has expanded its mastery of the high-tech world of auto racing to include a number of high-tech ways to view the races. And they can add a new dimension to the race even if you’re watching from your living room. ALEXA DANNER, ABCNews

NASCAR’s Nextel Cup drivers talk a good game, but during the next several weeks it will be interesting to see whether they can put their gas pedals where their mouths are. I’m wagering they’ll wind up leaving the gambling to shady characters who ply their trade on felt tables or darkened alleys and not on hard, unforgiving asphalt.

Nine crew chiefs, including those of Hendrick Motorsports teammates Gordon (Steve Letarte) and Jimmie Johnson (Chad Knaus), have been penalized this season and NASCAR has been collecting fines and docking points at unprecedented levels.
Other than Michael Waltrip’s car being found to have an illegal fuel additive before Daytona 500 qualifying, Gordon said the majority of infractions have fallen into categories not specifically covered in the rulebook.

Very soon the executives at NASCAR will begin the process of reviewing the rule book and making changes for the 2008 racing season. I hereby offer a plea for one big change: Please eliminate the Past Champions Provisional!

On Tuesday, NASCAR docked Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon 100 driver points each and suspended their crew chiefs, Chad Knaus and Steve Letarte, respectively, for six races after both drivers failed their pre-race car inspections last Friday at Sonoma. Officials discovered that the right front fenders of both vehicles were outside the Car of Tomorrow specifications.

I understand starting at the back of the field when you change an engine, but why is this so if you change it before qualifying?
Larry McReynolds: When you get to the track on opening day — which is normally the first practice day — and you unload your car, you submit the entire package for inspection.

Nextel Cup director John Darby—saying he was speaking for himself, not NASCAR—didn’t mince words Friday when asked about speculated changes to NASCAR’s Top-35 rule.
“We ain’t changing it,” Darby said.
That doesn’t mean, however, that NASCAR isn’t contemplating some alterations to the current rule that guarantees a position in the race field to every team ranked among the top-35 in owner points that week.
