That Carpentier has signed with Gillett Evernham Motorsports to drive the No. 10 Dodge next season comes as no surprise. George Gillett, owner of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and majority owner of the NASCAR team, likes Carpentier and likes what he did in his only NASCAR start this season—second in the Busch race at Montreal.
Carpentier joins Jacques Villeneuve as the only Canadians in stock-car racing’s upper echelon. Angelique S. Chengelis, detnews.com
Gillett Evernham Motorsports announced today that they have added Patrick Carpentier to their driver lineup for 2008. The Quebec native and former open wheel stand out will drive fulltime in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series next year as well as select races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The car number and sponsorship have not yet been announced. Auto Racing Daily
Carpentier’s sponsorship deal and car number have not yet been determined. Carpentier made his NASCAR Nextel Cup Series debut earlier this season driving the No. 10 Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge Avenger at Watkins Glen, leading seven laps in the event.
Just one week earlier, he had made his NASCAR Busch Series debut at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
The road course veteran proved to be a quick study as he won the pole for the event and led 14 laps en route to a second-place finish. Canada.com
It had already been announced that current driver Scott Riggs would be leaving the No. 10 Dodge team at season’s end, so Carpentier, who filled in for Riggs once this season, will assume the seat fulltime in 2008 while competing in a handful of NASCAR Nationwide Series events.
