The former Champ Car and Indy Racing League driver was in New Hampshire this weekend meeting with several Busch Grand National teams regarding a test and race programme.
Carpentier has been without a competitive ride this year after Eddie Cheever scaled back his IRL team to one car for 2006. Without any future prospects in open wheel racing, the 34-year-old says it’s the right time to take his career in another direction. TSN.ca
Add Patrick Carpentier to the growing list of Indy-car drivers making the move the NASCAR.
Scott Riggs will leave the No. 10 Dodge at Gillett Evernham Motorsports to drive the No. 66 Chevrolet at Haas CNC Racing, and his job is likely to be filled by the Canadian-born driver.
Carpentier has five career wins in the CART Champ Car Series and a third-place finish in the point standings in 2003. SavannahNow.com
UPDATE: October 10, 2007 05:44 am
I am hearing that a deal between Gillett Evernham Motorsports and Patrick Carpentier has been reached, and the former open-wheel driver will pilot the No. 10 Valvoline Dodge in 2008.
Carpentier would replace Scott Riggs, who is leaving the team at the end of the year to join Haas CNC Racing. Lee Spencer, FOXSports.com
Word on the street is that Patrick Carpentier might join Gillett Evernham Motorsports next season to drive the No. 10.
Will he join Gillett Evernham Motorsports next year to drive the car being vacated by Scott Riggs?
Well, Alex Gillett isn’t really saying. In a story I read on Monday he was quoted as saying, of Carpentier, “He is one guy we like, absolutely. He tested pretty well at Kentucky and drove the car pretty well on the track, so we’ll see.” Jaynelle Ramon, AzStarNet
