Q&A - Roush Fenway Racing Drivers Discuss The “Car Of Tomorrow” Testing Session At Richmond Internat
YOU WERE FASTEST IN THE FIRST SESSION YESTERDAY.
Yeah, in morning practice the car was really fast right off the truck the thing drove perfect. That car has been pretty good the whole time weve been here. My other car, well actually, my other car is faster. Im pretty happy overall. “
ARE YOU GOING TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE SAME THINGS THIS AFTERNOON?
Yeah, I think we are going to do some longer runs this afternoon, just to see how the tires hold up, see how the brakes and everything run, see what we can run for tape, and all that jazz, but pretty much the same thing. “
THE REST OF YOUR ROUSH FENWAY RACING TEAMMATES ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE HANDLING. ARE YOU EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING OR IS YOUR HANDLING BETTER?
Yes, about the same, but thats what you fight here. And if you do get it to turn any better the centers too loose. So its a balance you are always looking for. Our one car has better rear grip. Every time you go to the test, you always wish you could cut them in half, right in the middle. Because one always turns better than the other and one has more forward bite. It always works that way, but its for a reason, thats why we come out here to test.
Matt Kenseth No. 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion
Its been going really good, Robbies been in a great mood, the whole team is in a great mood and everyones been working hard. So its been going good.
HOW HAS THE HANDLING OF THE CAR BEEN?
Well, you kind of have to get over the fact that they drive different from what we are used to, but were working at it and trying to make it better.
Jamie Mcmurray No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion
Id say the test has gone pretty good over the last two days. We cant seem to get the car to turn in the corners, but we are working on finding something that helps to add some grip. These cars drive a lot differently than the cars that we are used to driving here at Richmond, so it makes it a different challenge. Larry (Carter) and the guys have been throwing a lot into the setup of this car, hoping to make it turn better in the center of the corner. We have the speed in our Ford Fusion, but just cant seem to find the right handling.
Carl Edwards No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion
My car feels pretty much the same as the regular car does here. We arent quite as fast as we need to be, but just kind of methodically working our way through it.
HOWS THE HANDLING BEEN OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS?
The cars been a little bit tight in the center of the corner, but thats common here, its not like theres some major difference. They just drive a little bit differently. Its just harder for us to get them to turn in the center of the corner.
