Here are some of the memorable moments in All-Star Challenge history:
• 1987 – Dale Earnhardt’s “Pass in the Grass” to take the win from Bill Elliott.
• 1989 – Rusty Wallace’s spin of Darrell Waltrip during the final two laps.
• 1992 – Davey Allison’s victory in the 1992 All-Star event, where Allison, Kyle Petty and Earnhardt battled on the final lap and Allison’s Ford crossed the line and into the wall after contact with Petty’s Pontiac.
• 1996 – Michael Waltrip’s all-star victory – the first by a driver who “transferred” into the event from a preliminary race.
• 2000 – Dale Earnhardt Jr. ’s victory – one of only two by a driver in his rookie season.
