Sterling Marlin drove his Waste Management Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish Monday in the rain-delayed Nextel Cup race at Dover International Speedway.
Marlin, who started 37th, moved through the field shortly after the green flag dropped to start the Autism Speaks 400. The Tennessee native ran in the top 15 and top 20 for the majority of the 400-mile event.
“We started way back but got up there pretty quickly, ” said Marlin. “We then made a tire pressure adjustment and got lapped. We weren’t that good on the starts, but we could run times equal to the leaders at the end of the run. We just couldn’t run air pressure like everybody else. “
“But overall, Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) and the guys did a good job getting this Car of Tomorrow dialed in for today’s race, ” added Marlin. “We didn’t unload that great on Friday, but we made some big gains since then. I’m enthused about how much better our COT program is getting. Not a bad points day today either. “
Regarding the points, the result propelled Marlin three spots to 24th in the Nextel Cup driver standings.
The next event for the Ginn Racing team will be Sunday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa.
