It started at the Coca-Cola 600 with Casey Mears scoring his first career victory. The next week Martin Truex Jr. visited victory lane for the first time.

NASCAR fans are generally lucky if they get two first-time winners in one season. Mears and Truex gave us two in two weeks.

Two weeks later, at Michigan, Carl Edwards finally got back to the winners circle. Though Edwards was already a four-time winner, we had not seen his trademark backflip after a Cup race since 2005. It was a welcome return by one of the sport’s good guys.

On the heels of Edwards’ victory, Juan Pablo Montoya made national and international headlines when he kept the streak going by winning at Infineon Raceway.
