Almost everyone in NASCAR agrees that if Earnhardt were to leave DEI, it could be devastating to the company founded by his late father. As fellow driver Tony Stewart pointed out earlier this year, DEI without Dale Jr. is “a museum.”

Since the late Intimidator died in 2001, DEI has been controlled by Junior’s stepmother Teresa, who has never had a close relationship with her stepson, according to comments Dale Jr. made in Daytona during preseason testing.
