Toyota is adamant they had nothing to do with the cheating
Toyota has gone to great lengths to assure everyone they had nothing to do with cheating even though NASCAR officials “had never seen a substance similar to the one found. The car has been taken back to the NASCAR R&D center to try and determine if the system to inject the illegal fuel additive was at the fuel cell or fuel line. Either way, some people had taken some time to plan this one. The only reason we won’t hear much more about this, or will we see any investigations into the NASCAR doping scandal, is because both NASCAR and Toyota want this to go away.
NASCAR competition vice president Robin Pemberton said “this has nothing to do with a manufacturer whatsoever. †Amazing how in the absence of an full investigation NASCAR can be so confident that Toyota had “nothing†to do with the fuel modification. Sounds like NASCAR is getting their damage control training from the Bush administration. Whenever a helicopter gets shot down in Iraq, there is an immediate statement out of the Pentagon that it was not due to enemy fire. Even before they can inspect the wreckage.
Toyota’s motorsports vice president, Jim Aust, said “Toyota is a company that was built on integrity. We want to compete, we want to win races and we want to challenge for championships, all while following the rules. â€
Not many people within the NASCAR community are talking openly about it, but there are a lot of people wondering privately how deep this hole goes. Unfortunately we don’t have the controversy that doping scandals create when the foreign substance enters a race car, as opposed to a human body. And you can bet your last dollar that getting a thorough public report from the NASCAR R&D center will be more difficult than getting autopsy photos from Teresa Earnhardt.
