The sounds of screaming engines and screeching tires will resonate through London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday when the English soccer shrine hosts the 20th annual Race of Champions.
The event pits 16 of the best drivers, competing in a variety of motor sports disciplines, in one-on-one match races on two parallel seven-tenths of a mile tracks. NASCAR’s reigning two-time champion Jimmie Johnson joins drivers from Formula One, World Rally and sports car racing who will compete in individual head-to-head and country of origin team competitions.
Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher heads the racers who will compete in five different, identically prepared cars. Among the cars to be used are a Ford Focus World Rally Car, an Aston Martin Vantage N24 and the event’s special-made rally cross dune buggies.
