The Airwaves Ducati team have finished a successful test in Almeria, Spain with both riders posting consistent times throughout the three day test.

With an air temperature of 24 degrees and a track temperature of 37 degrees the 4km circuit saw 383 laps completed by the Airwaves Ducati riders, 181 by Gregorio Lavilla and 202 by Leon Haslam.

On day two Leon clocked his fastest time of 1:35.6; he was pushing to better this on the final day when he crashed, reducing the opportunity for him to improve on it further. Greg set a quickest lap of 1:35.8 having ridden 729km over the three days.

Throughout the test both riders worked on a number of new settings on their bikes including successfully testing new sizes and compounds of Dunlop tyres. The team also tried out new Ohlins TTX 36 Factory 07 shocks on the final day.

Having completed 813km at the test Leon Haslam commented, “This test has gone well, I am really pleased. It has been our first good weather test so I was pleased when I was setting 1:35.6’s on the second day. I was looking forward to working to improve those times on the third day and my crash set me back but I am absolutely fine. I am pleased with the times overall especially as we are still working on some settings on the bike and the new Ohlins shocks. I think as we work on the fine tuning the consistency will improve with more race runs at the next test. ”

Greg knows the Spanish circuit well and was pleased with his performance saying; “This test has been good, we worked on a number of things and it has been a starting point for me with the bike, tyres and settings. We have tried some different things that we thought about last season and overall we have done a really good job here. I am looking to get the feeling back with more testing and hopefully we can continue the good work. ”

Team Manager Colin Wright added, “This is GSE Racing’s second test of the season and to enjoy three days of sunshine has given us ample opportunity to test settings and parts. It enabled us to complete the test as planned and therefore we are well on target to be ready for our first race at Brands Hatch. I must add a final thanks to Honda for allowing us to join them at Almeria. ”

Round One of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship commences at Brands Hatch on April 9th.
