AMA Racing Has Issues Its Proposed 2009 Road Racing Rules Package

AMA Racing has issued its proposed 2009 road racing rules package and made it available on-line at www.amasuperbike.com. Additionally, as part of its new rulesmaking procedure implemented in 2006, AMA Racing road racing credential holders can comment on the proposed rules. The comment period will run through August 31, 2007.

American Motorcyclist Association President/CEO, Rob Dingman commented on the new rules as well as the rulesmaking process. “This package is the result of the collaborative efforts of key AMA Racing staff members and the Road Racing Rules Committee,” said Dingman. “These rules reflect the goals set forth by the AMA’s Racing Committee and were created specifically to support the new AMA Superbike class structure announced in March.”

AMA Racing instituted an entirely new rulesmaking process last year. Separate committees, formed for each racing discipline, are tasked with developing proposed technical rules which are then sent to the AMA Board of Directors for final approval. A Racing Committee was also created to ensure that rules meet the AMA’s objectives in terms of strategic direction. Rules Committees are staffed by OEM and aftermarket representatives as well as key individuals from the racing community.

“These rules have been created with significant contributions from a number of respected leaders in the world of motorcycle road racing and the result is a solid package that will enable us to meet the continually evolving challenges inherent in professional motorsports,” said Dingman. “We appreciate the hard work of our staff and the committee members and look forward to the input of credential holders during the comment period.”

Dingman added that it is the association’s objective to put a final rules package in front of the Board of Directors for approval at its regularly scheduled meeting set for November.
