The return of World Superbike legend Chris the Stalker Walker, a four time runner-up in BSB, is a thrilling prospect for this year s championship (and for his army of fans) although local hero Tommy Hill (Lingfield) is another rider that has looked quick in official practice and is always in contention for a podium at his home circuit.
“The pressure is definitely on this weekend for everybody as it s the opening round, ” said the Virgin Yamaha rider. “I love the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit and testing has been going well so I can t see why we can t be on the podium. There are probably ten riders that could win this weekend, and with the race being on the GP circuit there will be plenty of passing maneuvers! I have been training harder than ever and testing has gone really well - we will have to see what happens on Bank Holiday Monday. ”
BSB stalwart and fans favourite Shane Shakey Byrne will also be keen to get his BSB campaign off to a flying start at Brands; he switches from Rizla Suzuki to the Stobart Honda squad for 2007 under the leadership of team manager Paul Bird who led him to title glory back in 2003 on a Ducati.
Shakey said: “I don t think I have ever looked forward to a new season so much before. I am back with a really good team, they believe in me and we have the same goals this season. We want to be winning races, I m really happy with how testing has been going and I can t wait for Brands Hatch! ”
