BSBK: Airwaves Yamaha Riders Returns to Home Track With Championship Lead

Airwaves Yamaha return to their home-track of Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend looking to strengthen their position at the top of the series standings.

When the team visited the 1.2 mile Indy circuit for the season opener in April, current leader of the Championship Leon Camier (23, Kent) scored the team’s first victory of 2009. He and teammate James Ellison (28, Cumbria) have gone on to record a further 13 wins out of 14 races.

GSE Racing, the team behind Airwaves Yamaha, sits within the portfolio of the GSE Group of Construction companies, based in Ashford, Kent. Both James and Leon will be eager to score some strong results around the 2.3 mile GP circuit, in front of the team’s home crowd.

Round 8 of the British Superbike Championship features an extra 18 lap race on Saturday. Currently leading the series by 75.5 points, local rider Leon is looking forward to the additional challenge saying, “It’s going to be interesting to see how the weekend goes. A third race will be physically harder for all the riders out there. But I’m looking forward to it. I’m feeling really comfortable on the Airwaves Yamaha and I’m fitter than ever. I think the race on the Saturday will produce closer racing on the Sunday. Teams will have an extra evening to work on their bikes with race data. The season so far has been incredible for us. We just need to keep the momentum going for the rest of the season.”

James is aiming to close the gap to his teammate at the top of the standings this weekend saying, “I’m really looking forward to Brands Hatch. We’ve had a couple of weeks off from racing and I’m so bored. I can’t wait to get back on the Airwaves Yamaha. The three race format is really exciting. I think it could go one of two ways for me. I can either use the extra race to my advantage and close the gap to Leon in the Championship. Alternatively, if Leon continues his winning form, he could extend his lead even further. Obviously it’ll be my plan to go out there and win, especially in front of GSE Group’s home crowd.”
