Dunlop was once again victorious at the recent final round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Eastern Creek.
Here Yamaha and Dunlop officially wrapped up both the Superbike and Supersport classes, a repeat of last years double Championship victory.
Outside of MotoGP, the Australian Superbike Championship has become one of the most fiercely contested race series in the world. Historically, Dunlop has been extremely successful in this Championship, winning 11 of the last 14 titles as well as other classes including Supersport, winning 11 titles in the 15 year history of the Championship.
After Stauffer comfortably wrapped up the 2007 Superbike title with one round remaining on his YZF-R1 SP, Dunlop dominated proceedings at the final round finishing the season with nine of the top ten places in the Championship.
At Eastern Creek the headline act was the showdown between Stauffer and his teammate, Jason O’Halloran for Supersport honours. It proved to be O’Halloran’s day clinching the title after a chaotic opening race which Stauffer uncharacteristically crashed out of. He maintained the lead in the afternoon’s shortened race to take the title of 2007 Australian Supersport Champion.
“That was definitely the toughest race of the year this afternoon, I went in with the points advantage and just needed to finish well to take the Championship, ” said O’Halloran.
“We built off last year, the same team and setups, the Yamaha and Dunlop combination worked well once again as the results of all our team showed. “
Jamie Stauffer was quick to acknowledge the contribution that Dunlop tyres made to his second Championship winning season in a row.
“Our tyre supplier Dunlop has been fantastic, and a key part of the Championship was decided with their help. ”
“The guys continue to provide me with the perfect race bike and the Dunlop tyres are perfect, the results really indicate that Dunlop is the winning tyre out there. ”
Since their small beginnings when John Boyd Dunlop first invented the pneumatic tyre in 1888, Dunlop has grown to become one of the world’s biggest and most respected tyre brands. Now, one of the iconic names in motorsport, the proud tradition remains with unrivalled success on two wheels and four.
