Superbike: Leon Haslam Ducati

Leon Haslam will start tomorrow’s race from 2nd place on the grid, after a rain interrupted qualifying session at Knockhill today. Gregorio Lavilla will start from the third row in 9th.

Having completed a dry practice in the morning the skies darkened prior to this afternoon’s 50 minute qualifying session. With rain looking imminent all riders were keen to get a quick lap in early on.

Leon was one of the first riders out on track, recording his fastest time of 48.665 on lap 3. 10 minutes into the session the rain started, leaving Greg in 9th position with a time of 49.628. The session was then declared wet, a few riders returned to the track for the closing minutes however the wet circuit prevented any improvement on times.

Following qualifying Greg commented; “It was my mistake; I was too cautious on my first lap, I then got stuck behind a rider going into the last corner on what would have been my fastest lap. I did not qualify as well as I had hoped. Results will all depend on the weather, I am quite happy with the bike but I will have to work hard in the race, we shall see what happens! ”

Leon was happy with his fifth front row of the season saying, “I am pleased with today, I probably could have got pole position but I got caught in a bit of traffic, 2nd place is good enough for me! I knew I had to get a quick lap in early and I am relieved that I was able to do that. I also did a few laps in the wet. I am confident for the dry but if it’s wet we still have a few things to do but we should be fine. On the whole I am pretty happy with it all! ”
