Free practice saw a day of mixed conditions for Airwaves Ducati; Leon Haslam finished 2nd and 6th with team mate Gregorio Lavilla in 7th and 3rd.
In a wet first session Leon completed more laps than any other competitor. He recorded his fastest time of 48.881 on his penultimate lap to finish 2nd. Greg’s fastest time of 50.151 resulted in a 7th place finish. Both riders improved their times in a dry second practice. Greg was the first rider to break 46 seconds mid way through the session. His fastest time of the day, 45.787, came soon after resulting in a 3rd place finish. Leon’s set his quickest time of, 45.964 with 20 minutes of the session remaining to finish 6th.
Greg was happy with his performance saying, “First practice was not very useful today because it was a wet track; I just went out there to see if everything was working well but we did not progress much with our settings. Second practice was dry so I went out on my normal bike settings and it felt ok but we have some things to work on tomorrow. I feel like I have got the pace, I just need to keep it up for the whole race distance now. I will complete some more laps tomorrow and work on some of my settings but on the whole I am feeling quite comfortable. ”
Leon favoured the mixed conditions commenting; “I am pretty happy; we have tested everything out today, wet’s, intermediate’s and dry and the bike is feeling good. I want to work on my dry settings a bit more tomorrow although I am not sure what the weather is going to do. We are only 0.2 seconds off so I am feeling pretty confident. ”
