Retired seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has escaped unhurt from a motorcycle crash in Spain.
Schumacher, 40, was testing his Honda 1000 CBR-Fireblade German superbike at the Cartagena circuit, where he has been since Monday.
His team boss Jens Holzhauer said: “This was not as bad as it sounds. It was a harmless slip and a quite normal training fall. He will still fly home this evening.”
“Today I had an accident at the biking tests in Cartagena, and to be safe I went to a hospital. I was driving down start-finish and when breaking into the first corner I hit some bumps which made me fall. The checks in the hospital showed nothing and I am fine, therefore I went back home at the evening.” Schumacher said.
The doctors diagnosed a mild concussion, while Schumacher himself complained of pain in his right wrist, according to a report.
Schumacher, 40, who retired from Formula One in 2006, won 91 races in a 16-year career with Jordan, Benetton and Ferrari encompassing 250 races.
The German, who won his first title under Fabio Briatore at Benetton in 1994, won a record five consecutive drivers’ titles between 2000 and 2004 when in the red of Ferrari, and also claimed seven straight victories in individual grand prix during the 2004 season.
