TOM SYKES and his Rizla Suzuki team are ready to take on the mountainous challenge that Cadwell Park poses this coming Bank Holiday weekend for round nine of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

With three race wins under his belt Sykes is determined to do it all again and would love another double win to aid his Championship challenge. The talented 23-year old is currently in third place in the series just a slender eight points behind Honda’s Cal Crutchlow. Moving into second place will be his aim for the weekend at the 2.18-mile Lincolnshire track.

Rizla Suzuki’s Atsushi Watanabe has been well warned about what to expect at Cadwell by his good friend Yukio Kagayama. He has managed to get some laps in at a track day there earlier this month to allow him to get to grips with the infamous Mountain. The Suzuka Eight Hour podium finisher is hoping to follow on from his solid performance at Knockhill which was cut short when he was knocked off his Rizla Suzuki whilst battling in ninth place. A solid top 10 is his aim at the highly technical and challenging circuit.

Cadwell Park will see the British Superbikes take on a Formula One style qualifying. The session will be made up of three sections and the fastest riders in each will go forward to the next session. The final 10 minute session will be for the top 10 riders only leaving them to battle it out for the first two rows of the grid.

Jack Valentine, Team Manager Rizla Suzuki: “Cadwell Park always produces close and spectacular racing and I’m sure that will be the case this weekend. Tom is on top of his game at the moment and with three wins under his belt he will be going all out for more. He is really closing down the points deficit in the Championship chase. The Rizla Suzuki team is working well and would love to leave Cadwell with second place in the Championship under its belt.

“Atsu has visited Cadwell for a track day and he liked the circuit, however it is a tough track and he has a mountain to climb quite literally this weekend. He was really showing his potential last time out at Knockhill battling for ninth place when he was taken down by another rider. I’d like to see him pick up from where he left off at Knockhill.”
