As far as Superbikes go, Jason DiSalvo (Yamaha) posted the top time of the day at 1:37.22. He was followed by Honda s Jake Zemke (1:37.30) and Miguel Duhamel (1:37.50) and Yamaha s Eric Bostrom (1:37.62). Most riders spent the day getting reacquainted with the 12-turn, 2.22-mile road course. The two-day test session is sponsored by Yamaha.
“Infineon is a track that is better suited to Yamaha and how the bike will handle, ” DiSalvo said. “It s got plenty of tight turns and flip-flops that bring out the good points in our Yamaha. ”
Yamaha last won a Superbike feature at Infineon Raceway in 2001 with rider Anthony Gobert.
“In the morning we found a good baseline but we tried a number of different things in the afternoon and got out of our rhythm, ” Zemke said.
Friday will also feature Two-Wheel Thunder, a festival of sorts for race fans that will include Supermoto USA racing, SB Freaks Freestyle demonstrations and Track Talk with top AMA riders. Track officials will also make an announcement as to a rider who will be inducted into the raceway s Wall of Fame.
The Supermoto USA event, which will take place behind the main grandstand in the paddock, is a benefit for local resident Allen Yarrow of Fairfield, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Yarrow is the father of well-known rider and former District One Flatrack champion Casey Yarrow.
