After two chilly and wet rounds, IRWIN Racing’s Alan Gurr is looking forward to plenty of sunshine and a strong showing at the sixth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Skycity Triple Crown at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend.
Gurr collected his first championship points of the season at Winton Motor Raceway in May, but the following round at Sydney’s Eastern Creek was a tougher affair.
With dry season weather expected at this time of the year in the Top-End, Gurr is looking forward to good track conditions.
“I have raced an open-wheeler in Darwin - so I do know the track very well, ‘ said Gurr.
“After two cooler and wet rounds, I’m really looking forward to a dry track.
“A change in weather we hope will also bring a change in the results for us.
“I can concentrate on making the car work better in the dry and not have to worry about a wet set-up.
“Qualifying is something we will really attack. I’m sure that we can show our pace and not only qualify well but also score strong results.
Lead Engineer Greg Foletta is looking forward to making full use of the Falcon in Darwin.
“We are aiming for a move up the order in Darwin, “ said Foletta.
“We made some major updates to our car before Winton, but with the changeable weather we didn’t really get to see the full benefit of that.
“The weather in Darwin at this time of year is certainly warm - but it’s also dry. This will allow us to concentrate on improving the car in the dry.
“I’m sure that will allow us to qualify further up the order and chase some good points. “
Gurr hits the track for extended practice on Friday afternoon. Teams then chase qualifying positions from Saturday morning, followed by the opening 42-lap race that afternoon. Sunday’s action features two more 42-lap races.
