After the massive airlift that involves more than 100 tonnes of V8 Supercars, spare parts, engines and equipment, Team BOC have arrived in Bahrain and are ready for the desert battle.

And it was a marathon just making the trip.

With two damaged cars coming out of the Indy 300 on the Gold Coast, it was all hands on deck at Team BOC’s Albury headquarters, turning both Falcons around in under 5 days.

This, backed up against the teams damage from Bathurst, the first break for many of the team was the 18 hour flight to the middle east.

“This is such a busy end of the year for the team, ” said Andrew Jones.

“With travel time too and from these meetings, the guys are literally getting only a few days with the cars, which in normal circumstances would be ok, but we seem to have run over a few black cats lately and luck certainly hasn’t been going our way. ”

The time frame is also tight after this weekends Desert 400 in Bahrain, with the car’s needing to be prepared prior to the next overseas trip - Tasmania. Team BOC will look to do much of the preparation work in Bahrain prior to the cars being airlifted back to Australia.

That said, both Team BOC drivers are relishing the opportunity to race in Bahrain this weekend.

“It is a magic circuit. It would be great to use the full Formula One circuit, but at the moment I understand that’s not possible. ”

“I think Bahrain will grow into a great race but the circuit seems to favour teams who can get the power down easily, at least it did last year. ”

Tyres played such an important part in last years race, and I don’t think it will be any different this year. The circuit is quite abrasive, more abrasive than you would expect a newish circuit to be, which makes tyre wear and tyre management very important. ”

With most drivers in the championship having at least one year of experience in Bahrain, Team BOC’s Simon Wills goes into the event as a rookie

“This is my first visit to Bahrain and I have to say I am really impressed, ” said Wills.

“I was fortunate enough to compete in Shanghai, and this circuit doesn’t look too dissimilar, so I am looking forward to getting out onto the circuit. ”
