With the snow blast coming off the Victorian Alps, Fujitsu Racing’s Damian Assaillit is ready for a cold reception at the fifth round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway.

A Sunshine Coast resident, Assaillit is looking at being amongst one of the hottest drivers on the tight and twisty Winton layout.

“It might be a cold place, but we want to show hot form,” said Assaillit.

“At the recent Queensland Raceway round we had good early weekend pace, but couldn’t get it done in qualifying before being beaten around in the races.”

“We have made some changes which have improved the handling. Around the tight Winton layout we feel this will work in our favour.”

“Having two races in two weeks is good for us. We feel that will help us go forward in the championship.”

Run by Race Image Motorsport, Team Principal David McMahon believes Winton could provide a springboard to a strong second half of the season for the Fujitsu Racing team.

“The package is getting better each time we compete,” said McMahon.

“Damian has improved, plus our technical team has become a lot stronger.”

“Qualifying again will be critical. Passing is pretty hard at Winton, so we must start towards the front. That’s the number one goal for the weekend.”

“From that point our race pace is very good and a result well inside the top-10 is a real possibility.”

Assaillit and the Fujitsu Racing team take part in two practice sessions on Friday with Saturday’s action including qualifying and the opening 14-lap race. Sunday concludes the weekend includes another two 14-lap races.
