A strict timeline has been put in place to guarantee the completion of repairs to Alan Gurr’s IRWIN Racing Falcon for the next round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway on 20-22 July.
Gurr was involved in a heavy accident at Darwin’s Hidden Valley on June 24, with the result being a massive repair job for his Melbourne-based team.
The team was only able to fully assess the car last Thursday, before finalising plans this morning.
The car will have extensive front and rear repair work carried out, including new front rails as well as a brand new rear of the car.
“This is the second time this year we have been forced to go through this process after Jason Bright’s heavy accident in the Fujitsu Racing Falcon in Perth, “ said General Manager Chris Jewell.
“It’s both time consuming and very expensive.
“It was a big hit, but we are confident of having Alan in Queensland in just three short weeks.
“The news could have been a lot worse, but importantly we will repair the car locally and that will not lose us any precious time.
“Fortunately the race schedule has a long gap between the Darwin and Queensland races. That’s the only way we have been able to consider making the repairs.
“To make the race, all items on the timeline have to be met; our crew is working with an excellent group of suppliers and that’s key for us. “
The IRWIN Racing Falcon has to be loaded in the team transporter by Tuesday 17 July.
