The Toll HSV Dealer Team again led the charge of the new VE Commodores in pre-season testing at a hot and dry Winton Raceway today.
This time it was the turn of 2006 V8 Supercar Champion Rick Kelly who lapped the circuit in 1 min. 23.0 sec. – almost a second quicker than the next fastest VE on the day.
Unlike some other teams, Toll HSV resisted the temptation to fit new “green†tyres, running all day on old rubber as it worked through a strenuous two-day test program in readiness for the opening round of the V8 Supercar Series.
On Monday, Garth Tander’s #16 VE Commodore was the fastest of the new Holdens in the shakedown for the new season. Then today, Kelly went faster again as the team applied its accumulated knowledge to his car.
Like Tander, Kelly was pleased with the progress during the day, saying the #1 VE was everything he expected and more.
“We spent the day getting to know the car and how it responds to various changes, †he said. “And it was great – no problems at all and plenty of promise. We are pumped and looking forward to the real thing at Clipsal now. â€
