In the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series, Ford driver Craig Lowndes won the Skycity Triple Crown, round six of the 2007 Championship, for the second consecutive year at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, Northern Territory.
After steering his TeamVodafone Falcon to eighth position during qualifying the Queensland based driver meticulously worked his way towards the front of the field in the opening 42-lap race to cross the line in third place.
Lowndes was fortunate not to get caught up in an opening lap fracas when contact was made between Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom.
The contact triggered a multi-car incident which caused severe damage to the cars of Jason Bright, Russell Ingall and Winterbottom while also eliminating Greg Murphy from the race.
Lowndes went on to dominate Sunday’s two races and claim the overall round victory, his first for 2007 and the 27th of his career.
Finishing second overall was championship leader Rick Kelly in his Toll HSV Holden Commodore. Kelly was never far from the front throughout the weekend, securing pole position on Saturday and recording three second place finishes to extend his lead in the points standings.
Holden Veteran Mark Skaife continued his run of good form to finish third ahead of Garth Tander and Todd Kelly.
