After qualifying fastest yesterday Tony finished second in both the opening race and the reverse top-10 race, which put him on grid one for the 30 lap final.
“I was not totally happy with the car in the first two races and didn t feel like I had the speed to win the final race. “As it turned out the changes we made were sensational and I was able to race to comfortable lead. ”
As the race wore on Tony s lead over Marcus Marshal grew to around eight seconds as he consistently lapped 4/10th of a second quicker than his closest rival.
In the late stages of the race as Tony headed for victory a Safety Car delayed the celebrations slightly with the closing laps spent behind it. As the Safety Car peeled off on the last lap of the race Tony was able to cruise to a sensational victory.
“To score my first pole position, race win and round win in the same weekend is awesome, ” Tony said. “This is a culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication from my team and family.
Tony s engineer, Anthony Pethebridge was delighted with the way the meeting panned out.
“The car responded well to changes all weekend and Tony s driving was extremely consistent, ” he said. “I think this is the first of many for our team. ”
The win puts Tony on top of the series points, a massive 27 clear of second placed Michael Caruso. The next round of the Series will be at the team s test track, Victoria s Winton Raceway 0n 18-20 May.
