Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly have it all in front of them for Races 2 & 3 at Winton Raceway tomorrow after an afternoon they would rather forget put them well outside the places today.
In terrible, winter-like conditions, Todd Kelly qualified fastest before having a race he described as one of the worst in his career. Mark Skaife – who qualified in 16th position – had difficulty staying on the bitumen at times, as the 2007 V8 Supercar season encountered consistently inclement weather for the first time this year.
Both drivers can’t wait to return tomorrow to make amends for an ordinary Race 1 at Winton.
Ford’s Jamie Whincup took maximum points with Toll HSV Dealer Team team-mates Rick Kelly and Garth Tander finishing in third and fourth positions respectively.
Mark Skaife (21st)
“What a shocker! Never in my life have I had so many ‘offs’ in one race. It wasn’t all my own work either with Lowndes, Bargwanna and Coulthard all contributing at various stages.
Every panel on the car copped and pounding and there is mud and dirt seeping out of everything. At one stage I climbed to fourth position before encountering further drama.
At least the car speed is there. Let’s see how we go tomorrow, in hopefully better conditions. ”
Todd Kelly (27th)
“It would be good to be able to go back to the start of the race and do it all again. Very disappointing day. I had a great car, both in wet and variable weather, but it turned out to be one of the worst days in my career.
Tomorrow will be hard work, although the car is in good shape and I had no trouble passing in the ordinary conditions. ”
