Team BOC’s difficult Symmons Plains weekend came to a head in race three today, with both cars caught up in incidents, resulting in a double DNF for the team.
Earlier in the day, in race two, Andrew Jones was making good progress until he received a tap from Owen Kelly. Kelly was subsequently handed a drive through penalty for his trouble, however Jones’ race was left in taters. Simon Wills on the other hand stayed out of trouble with the rest of the field, however he was once again plagued by brake problems early in the race, leaving him to spend most of the race managing his braking performance. Wills finishing in 24th, Jones back in 27th.
Race three was less than two laps old before disaster struck Team BOC. An altercation between Max Wilson and Todd Kelly left Simon Wills unsighted by a cloud of dust, moving to the left of the circuit to avoid anything stationary on track. Wills however pulled directly into the path of Jones, instantly damaging the right front suspension of the #12 Falcon, putting Jones out of the race.
Wills was then left as the sole Team BOC Falcon until an off track excursion by Garth Tander again produced a large cloud of dust, totally engulfing the final series of corners. Wills, together with Owen Kelly, Shane Price and Paul Dumbrell all ending their races on the outside of turn seven, coming together all completely unsighted.
The series now turns its attentions to the final round of the year, the Dunlop Grand Finale at Victoria’s Phillip Island Raceway in a fortnights’ time.
