Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has finished 11th overall, including 10th place in the opening race of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
By far team’s best-ever result, the Fujitsu Racing Falcon showed great speed throughout the weekend.
Bright was one of the pacesetters in the all-new elimination qualifying format before starting the opening race in 12th. He was able to finish two spots ahead of his starting position in a race that went without any safety cars.
Bright was made to earn his result with hot conditions plus the late failure in the race of his cool-suit and no more water to drink.
Race #2 had three safety-car periods, including one that eliminated teammate Alan Gurr. A mid-race brush with a wall also hampered his pace, but he still managed to bring the Ford home in 14th.
Overall Bright was pleased with the pace, but felt some opportunities didn’t go his way.
“I’ve been really happy with our pace this weekend, I really can’t complain about that, ” said Bright.
“We didn’t make the best calls with our pit stops. They were quick enough but just missed the mark on when to stop as we always seemed to come back out onto the track in traffic.
“We showed great pace in qualifying and I know that going forward we can carry that over to the race.
“Our engines are good, but with a new dyno cell being installed at the workshop, we can expect to see some improvement there as well.
“Importantly this is not a flash in the pan. We have all the ingredients, including the right people. We have a plan to continue to improve and I have full confidence that it can happen.
“I’m feeling confident going to Perth. Back to the traditional three-race sprints and a short circuit. As apposed to Adelaide, I think it could be the type of track which we will show our true speed at.
Chief Engineer Geoff Slater was pleased with the overall performance of the team.
“It’s a good start for us after a couple of years being towards the back, ” said Slater.
“We showed some promise and with some further fine tuning we can continue to improve.
“It’s pleasing to see that hard work in the off-season has paid off. Jason’s happy with the car and I’m sure it’s onwards and upwards from here.
“Perth is a different track, but we are confident of getting our head around things and once again showing some improvement. “
The next round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series is at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway on 23-25 of March.
