Holden driver Paul Dumbrell topped the time sheets in difficult practice conditions at Winton Raceway today.
Cool, showery weather, saw teams changing tyres regularly to maintain grip on a greasy track surface. HRT’s Mark Skaife captured the fourth fastest lap time (1minute 24.43 seconds), while team-mate Todd Kelly ran 11th with 1.24.91 as 18 cars lapped within a second of the best lap time of 1.24.1.
#2 Mark Skaife
“It’s hard to tell how teams are performing comparatively in these sort of changeable conditions. It was encouraging for us in that our cars responded well and we didn’t need to use green tyres in order to capture a time.
Depending on weather, things should go well for us in qualifying tomorrow. ”

“The car was good in the wet toward the end of the session and we know what we have to do tomorrow with our set-up, no matter what the weather brings.
Again it will be a case of chasing a grip level with a changeable surface. ”
