IRWIN Racing’s Alan Gurr and Warren Luff will display a special one-off bonnet scheme for the biggest V8 Supercar race of the year, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on 4-7 October.
The new bonnet design will depict IRWIN Industrial Tools recently introduced Speedbor MAX - an innovative wood drilling bit that is 6X faster and 4X longer lasting than a traditional spade bit. Just like a V8 Supercar, Speedbor MAX was designed for maximum speed and optimum endurance.
Alan Gurr is keen for a special result for the one-off bonnet scheme.
“It would be nice to mark the event with a very strong result in the biggest race of the year, ” said Gurr.
“Bathurst is clearly the race you want to do well at and we feel confident of a strong showing.
“Our sister car from Fujitsu Racing completed a successful evaluation of some Bathurst-spec components at Winton Motor Raceway and we will have them on our car as well for the big race. “
Co-driver Warren Luff is looking forward to another crack at Bathurst.
“The endurance V8 races have been my total focus this year and I’m ready for the challenge, ” said Luff.
“Alan and I worked together at Sandown and that went really well. Having a car that we are both happy with at Bathurst is clearly important.
“The improvements that the team is making will be of great benefit. We are sure to improve our tyre life and that will be an important factor in such a long race. “
IRWIN Racing Lead Engineer Greg Foletta has been pleased with preparations.
“The Bathurst-spec components are aimed at making the car more consistent to drive which will hopefully give us gains in outright speed, ” said Foletta.
“As well as these improvements we have been working through a range of race scenarios so that we are on top of any situation in the race.
“So many things can happen at Bathurst. Our aim is not to shine early, but be there at the end. If we can do that a strong placing is a real possibility. “
The IRWIN Racing team hits the track from Thursday, ahead of the 1000km classic on Sunday.
