V8 Supercar driver James Courtney was last night eliminated from Channel 7’s hit show Dancing with the Stars after six weeks in the series.
Courtney and Russian-born dance partner Olya Bourtasova finished at the bottom of the scorecard after last night’s performance, the public vote not enough to keep them in the show.
There is no time for Courtney to rest however, the JELD-WEN Motorsport driver boarding a plane this morning to travel to Bahrain for round twelve of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, which starts tomorrow.
The Gold Coast-based Courtney and Bourtasova danced the Foxtrot last night, scoring 20 from the panel of four judges.
They later they participated in a ‘Bollywood’ routine with the five other couples, and again recorded the lowest score of the six couples.
While disappointed to be eliminated, Courtney said he had enjoyed forging new friendships with fellow competitors on the program, and he felt the Seven Network’s decision to invite a V8 Supercar driver to participate in the series would help raise public awareness for his sport.
“People have come up to me at airports saying they have started watching our (V8 Supercar) races after seeing a driver on ‘dancing’, so that’s a positive spin-off for motor sport, ” he said.
“It’s sad to leave the show, but it’s been an amazing couple of months and something I enjoyed more than I thought I would.
“We gave it our best shot, but someone has to leave every week, and this time it was us.
“The public have given Olya and I plenty of support and their votes have saved us a couple of times. I really want to thank them for that. ”
