The hotly contested Aussie Racing Car Series heads to Sandown Raceway this weekend for Round 6 of the Series with a stellar line-up boasting a massive field that will storm the Melbourne circuit with sensational door to door racing.

The meeting marks the first anniversary of the introduction of the Evolution Aero Kits that have revolutionized the racing at high speed circuits, increasing the slipstreaming and passing maneuvers under brakes.

A solitary point separates Brad and James Ward entering the round and with only three races contested getting the right set-up early will be the key as you can’t afford to be caught up in a mid-pack battle.

“You really can’t afford to have one bad race this weekend as you won’t have enough time to recover and make your way back through the field, ” James said.

“We already have six different race winners and four different round winners this year so it certainly is anyone’s game, but one thing I know for certain is that I will be trying everything to beat my brother and take the lead in the standings. ”

Many competitors will draw upon their experience racing here last year while newcomers to the category such as David Lawrence and Grant Crosby will plan to get to know the circuit early on if they are to have a chance at victory.

The racing here last year was phenomenal as Paul Kemal came from near last to win one of the races in a sensational drive.

“For those who haven’t been to the circuit before it will be crucial that they get to follow an experienced runner in practice to get an idea of where you should break and turn in, ” Kemal said.

The long front and back straights are key overtaking areas with heavy slip-streaming carried out and, as last year showed, there could be up to six ‘pocket rockets’ line astern entering turn one!

Defending Series champion Kemal will look take advantage of those straights and add to his season tally of seven wins in his bid claim back-to-back titles while youngsters Ben McCashney and Kyle Clews are planning on securing their first race wins for the year.

Steve MacGregor heads into the round a marginal leader in the Masters Cup Series standings ahead of Shane Wolki and Ryan Flynn. Flynn is at the wheel of a Classic Ford, a model which last year finished on the overall podium in the first meeting with the new aero pack. It is that type of result that could elevate Flynn into Masters Cup glory in his Rookie year.
