Jamie Whincup Grabs Victory At Sandown
Jun 09, 2008
Jamie Whincup produced the first sub-1minute 10 second lap in winning race three - his second chequered flag after taking out the opening race on Saturday.
“That lap I won’t forget for a long time, I’ll probably never forget it. That was one of the better ones,” Whincup said.
“I got a perfect car and got the most out of it and you only experience that a handful of times over your whole motorsport career.
“Whether it’s a go-kart, a Formula Ford or a V8 Supercar, a good car is a good car and that’s when all four wheels are sliding across the track equally,” he said.
Ford dominated the event with Falcon pilot Mark Winterbottom’s consistency earning him the lead in the series, overtaking Garth Tander and his Holden.
“It was a tough race right from the start. We were on the slippery side of the grid,” Whincup said.
Winterbottom said he was delighted to have wrested the series points lead away from Tander.
“It’s a first time ever for Ford Performance Racing and we’re excited about how we’re going,” he said.
“To lead, it’s an achievement, so a fantastic weekend, more points but Jamie had a solid weekend and didn’t put a foot wrong.”
