Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has set a target of a top-five finish at the sixth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Skycity Triple Crown at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend.
At the previous two rounds Bright has qualified inside the top-10. However, despite also finishing in the top-10 in the first race of the weekend, he has not been able to back that up in races #2 and #3.
Darwin has been one of Bright’s best tracks in the series and he believes a return to the sunny top-end will bring the desired result.
“Darwin is a special place for me as it’s where I got my first round win back in 1999, “ said Bright.
“I do like the track. Including the win I have finished on the podium four times and taken three pole positions.
“For this year we would be delighted to finish the weekend in the top-five overall.
“Our pace at Winton and Eastern Creek was very good. We just have not been able to string three solid races together.
“Going to Darwin I feel very positive and with my history at the track being very good I could think of no better place to get a top-five. “
Chief Engineer Geoff Slater has backed the claim by his driver.
“From a technical side we have been very pleased with our progress over the last two races, “ said Slater.
“However, we have not put together what I call a complete round as yet. That is qualifying well, getting a good start, making a fast pit stop and most importantly staying out of trouble on the track.
“Doing that for an entire weekend is very hard to achieve, but we feel that if we keep our nose clean on the track, we should score a top-five.
“The last two rounds we have had to work through changeable weather and that has hampered our preparation. One thing in Darwin is that the weather should stay consistent. That is warm and dry. “
Teams hit the track for extended practice on Friday afternoon. Saturday includes the elimination-styled qualifying followed by the opening 42-lap race. Sunday concludes the weekend with another two 42-lap races.
