V8 Supercar: Fujitsu Racing's Jason Bright Has Again Showed Plenty Of Speed BAM Media

Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has again showed plenty of speed, but has come away with nothing at the sixth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Darwin’s Hidden Valley.

The round was won by fellow Ford driver Craig Lowndes.

The highlight of the weekend was setting the fastest time in the first segment of qualifying. From that point, the weekend literally came apart.

A crash in the second segment of qualifying, as well as being eliminated in a multi-car accident in race #1 was bad enough, before engine dramas ended any hopes in the final two races of the weekend.

“A long way to come for a nothing result, “ said Bright.

“We followed a detailed plan in practice and then into qualifying. It was great to set the fastest time in the first segment of qualifying, but from that point we just couldn’t buy a trick.

“It’s frustrating to be going through all these dramas, but know we have a fast racecar. It’s just a case that when something goes against you, things then seem to be compounded from that point forward.

“We will rebound from this. When we do complete a weekend without any dramas - look out!

“Our plan is to switch back to our original racecar ahead of the next round in Queensland. This is going to be important as we head into the second half of the season and look towards the big races. “

Fujitsu Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater chose to focus on the positives from the weekend.

“From an engineering side we are positive about the direction we are heading, “ said Slater.

“Our engine dramas are in the electrics and we’ll rectify that before the next round.

“Motor sports can be frustrating, but we know that success is not that far away.

“We are looking forward to getting back into our original racecar as we are sure that’s going to give us even better performance going forward. “

One of the lighter sides of the weekend came after the accident in race #1 when the crew had to change the damaged body panels. Due to the earlier accident in the qualifying session, the Fujitsu Racing team had exhausted its spare set of panels.

The challenge was finding the original set of panels that had been sold to supporters. Jason Bright joined the crew in seeking out the fans to exchange the car panels. The Fujitsu Racing supporters were found and were more than happy to swap to ensure the team returned to the track.

The Fujitsu Racing team next goes racing at the seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway on 20-22 July.
