Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright will be out to end the V8 Supercar Championship Series in a positive fashion at the Dunlop Grand Finale this weekend at Phillip Island.

Since joining his own team at the start of this year, Bright has encountered a challenging season on the track. A major accident in Perth and the heartbreaking end to his Bathurst campaign while running in the top-five, the two major incidents from the year.

Despite the hits, Bright is in a positive frame of mind heading to a track he enjoys.

“Phillip Island is a great circuit and a place we feel will suit our car, ” said Bright.

“It’s very important to finish the year with a good result at Phillip Island.

“In effect we only have some 13 weeks until we open the 08 season in Adelaide and having some momentum to take over Christmas is important.

“There’s a lot at stake in terms of the championship challengers, we are not actually in that race, but can certainly play our part for Ford especially with a strong performance. “

The challenge of getting the car set-up right for the high-speed track has kept Fujitsu Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater busy over the past week.

“Phillip Island is a very fast track and balance is very important to get right, ” said Slater.

“With fast-sweeping bends it punishes the tyres, especially along the right-rear. Over three tough races, maintaining the rubber is critical.

“A good qualifying run can get us towards the front and from there I’m sure we can move ahead a few spots and look at a spot inside the top-five. “

After crisscrossing the country and racing twice overseas (New Zealand and Bahrain), the final round is less than an hour from the Fujitsu Racing base in South East Melbourne.

Teams hit the track for extended practice on Friday, followed by qualifying and the opening 27-lap race on Saturday afternoon. The final two races of the season will be run on Sunday.
