“I think everyone knows that Perth is one of those tracks where single file racing is the order of the day, ” explained Shane Price on the circuit. “If you push too hard to force an over taking maneuver you’re going to pay the price in a big way. “
Determined therefore to make forward progression from their respective starting position, Price and Perkins took a steady approach to the race, grabbing passing opportunities only when they arose and using the team’s pit stop strategy to make forward gains.
In a race that only witnessed one yellow flag when HRT’s Todd Kelly spun off into the sand trap at the end of the main straight, both Price and Perkins ultimately benefited from their ‘calm and collected’ strategies to finish 15th and 24th.
“I think we both know that our cars are capable of better results, but starting down the order really didn’t help today, ” said Jack Perkins. “I have to admit that I put in a very ordinary qualifying time and that disappoints me because I know the #11 Jack Daniel’s Racing Commodore has so much more potential. “
“The aim now is to learn from today, to take that 50 laps worth of experience and put it to good use during tomorrow’s two races, ” added Perkins.
“I agree, this is a tough track to pass on but we moved forwards inch by inch today and that’s encouraging, ” continued Shane Price. “Our aim tomorrow is to continue that progress, to use these cars which are definitely capable of getting into the top ten, and to try to get a decent collection of points. “
