Mark McNally hit the track today for the first two practice sessions of the final round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Sydney’s Oran Park Raceway.
The event also marks the final race meeting at the iconic circuit after the property was sold for residential development.
With a busy race schedule this weekend many classes are having their early practice sessions today.
Mark didn’t waste any time making the most of gains made at his recent test day, finishing eighth and 13th fastest respectively in the two sessions today.
“We went out in the first session with a standard set-up which proved to be quick,” Mark said.
“I was in P1 for a lot of the session before ending up 8th.”
In practice 2 Mark tested the set-up that was tried to some success at Winton last week.
“We played around with the rear roll centre adjustment, and although it was just as fast the car was too unstable in the rear.
“I am glad we tried it because we were able to rule it out and get on with improving the set-up from practice 1.”
Mark was in P7 for much of the session before ending up 13th.
“Our aim was to finish in the top 50% for qualifying tomorrow, and we did that without using any green tyres.
“We will make a few changes but we are confident that the car is fast enough for a good qualifying session tomorrow.”
Mark is not far outside the top 10 of the series and is looking for a strong result this weekend to boost his position.
“We really need a good result heading into next year as we try to finalise our plans and put together a budget,” Mark said.
“Our sponsors have been fantastic this year and we hope that we can continue those relationships into the future.”
Mark has qualifying tomorrow with race 1 on Saturday and the final race of the series on Sunday.
