Mark Skaife continued his dominating run of recent form with a clean win over 42 laps of Hidden Valley. Skaife won by 6.7 seconds from Toll HSV’s Rick Kelly and Ford’s Craig Lowndes who forced his way past Todd Kelly prior to the final lap after a race long dice continuing from the prior race at Eastern Creek.
Frontrunners Ingall, Winterbottom and Murphy were sidelined early after a multi-car collision involving Will Davison.

“It was a bit like dodgem cars into the first corner but I got through okay. We didn’t tune the car correctly for qualifying but got it pretty right for the race. Even then, with the sun at full strength it’s a tough little circuit to negotiate. Our VE ran consistently all race but we probably need to tune it for a hotter day tomorrow and see if we can’t repeat the effort. “

I got a ripper start from the front row but the safety car negated that quick smart. The car wasn’t quite right and we were struggling with tyres throughout. That let Lowndes past and Whincup was hovering towards the end. We need to do a better job preparing the car tomorrow to stay up the front. At least I’m starting from the grippier side of the grid again so that might help. ”
